We have taken a Christmas break and I miss my Zumba. I am ready for the challenges of 2012. I am training for a half marathon on top of my Zumba class. I plan on being in the best shape of my life in 2012. I realized that talking about it won't cut it, I need to act so here I go!

Cindy's Dance Studio
Well the dance studio in the basement is up and running. I LOVE going to the basement for class. My group of divas is wonderful and I look forward to our Zumba parties. I tried an afternoon class but didn't get too many students so I am sticking with the 7-8 pm class because that seems to be going really well. If I get a group of interested people I will revisit the idea. I am the boss and that is the way to do business. I can offer my students free trial classes, coin skirts, snacks, and water. I had trouble doing all those things at Community Ed. If you are interested, call me at 419-351-7285. Let's Zumba!!! Whoot! Whoot!

We are on to greener pastures and I am soooo excited
Howdy Zumba Kittens!
We have wrapped up another fantastic year of dancing our cares away. Next year (2011-2012) promises to bring some amazing changes to our Zumba tribe. I am in the process of working on bigger and better things for you (while making you smaller and fit) . I will give you details when things are finalized. I want you to know this all about YOU!
Summer conference is going to get me to expand our classes to get the most out of each and every dance. My conference schedule is jam packed with classes that I can share with you when I get back. I'm fired up, how about you?!
I am going to spend my summer walking, horseback riding, biking, running, and training for Zumba. Oh how I love the warmer weather. If any of you want to join me just give me a call. I always welcome company because it makes the party so much more fun. I love to hit Wildwood, Whitepark, and then go to my walkout basement for Zumba; it is always nice and cool down there. Sometimes I even dance outside since there is no one behind my house. I'm also looking forward to doing some Aqua Zumba in my pool this year.
As soon as I have information for our new Zumba year I will post it.
Take care until we meet again and keep moving!!!

Zumba in full swing!
We finally are not getting our Zumba interrupted and are heating up the place on a regular basis. I feel like I am getting stronger every week! I hope you are too.
If you have any suggestions for songs you want to stay or go, let me know. I will work on adding a new song or two a week so all suggestions are welcome.
Keep it up, I am seeing you looking better and getting in better shape every class. I am proud of you!

B2 Class in Vandalia, Ohio
Last weekend I went to Vandalia, Ohio to get certified in an advanced Zumba class, Basics 2. The instructor works closely with Beto, Zumba's creator. It was a class to improve my techniques and to learn new dance moves. We worked on belly dancing, Samba, and Flamenco. We broke down songs and learned new choreography. It was all about making the class better for you.
The class was held at a Zumba studio that is run by the husband and wife team that originally taught me how to teach Zumba. Doug and Joan also work closely with Beto and travel the country to create Zumba instructors. The studio is 2 1/2 hours from Bedford and I was planning on driving home but the weather had another plan for me. In Vandalia there was icy rain and up in Bedford was ice and snow. After dancing for 7 hours I was actually happy to get a hotel and sleep for 9 hours before having to make the trek home.
Now I have 2 certifications now and will be getting a 3rd, Zumba Toning, at the Zumba conference this summer in Orlando. I also plan on getting my Zumba Gold (older active students), Aqua Zumba (pool), and Zumbatonics (kids) certifications. I will have 3 all together (B1, B2, and Toning) by the end of this year and my goal is to add one a year until I have them all. I feel that to keep at my best for you I need to keep on top of the latest classes that are available to me.
I will keep you posted on Toning classes for the next school year.
Keep moving Kittens!

Horses have really big feet!
I got kicked by my horse this morning. I have a nasty bruise and lump on my left leg. Good thing it isn't a Zumba day. I was supposed to run today (I am training for a half marathon) but I decided to take a break and ice it so I am ready to go for tomorrow. I bowled tonight and all was good.
I took a plastic bag filled with hay through his stall to the pasture. When I came back through the stall the bag was flapping and he kicked at it and I was in the way. Dumb move on my part. I am just glad it was a lesson learned with just a bruise. He has been trying to make it up to me all day. Once he realized he kicked Mom you could tell he felt really bad. He is a very sweet horse. I was just a dumb Mom.
Some of my friends at bowling are interested in taking our next class. I am excited to get more people to join our party. If you get someone to join next session I have a free t-shirt for you! It is always more fun with your girls.
See you tomorrow my Zumba kittens!

The thaw is finally here!
Tonight we get back to our Zumba party! I feel like the snow gods are clashing with the dancing gods....hmmmm....sounds like a story in there somewhere, maybe mythology? I know I have been missing seeing your beautiful faces; dancing at home just doesn't have the same energy. When we dance together it feels like a Girls' Night Out. Hey, isn't that what it is?
I have to tell you that I took a pole dancing class this past weekend. I have done this in the past and loved it. Not only do we pole dance, we do a chair dance too. It is fun and very sexy but I have to admit I would have like it better if we used our music. I didn't get the same feeling when I was dancing in that class. With Zumba I feel the adrenaline start to flow and never seem to get tired. I do have very sore arms. I think once I take my Zumba Toning class this summer, my arm problem will be solved. I'm taking that instructor class at the Zumba conference in Orlando. I thought we used our arms in Zumba but swinging on a pole is a new experience for my poor body.
We have one more week of our current routine and then I will switch out a couple of songs with some new ones. I don't want to change it all up at once since we haven't had a chance to get bored with this one yet. I used to change the entire routine but the feedback I get is that my Zumba kittens like to keep a few they know so they don't feel overwhelmed learning so many new routines. Let me know what you think? I don't want you bored, but I also don't want you feeling like you can't keep up. I am doing this for you so give me your input.
Thanks,
Cindy

Zoot Zoot Zumba!!!
Ok Kittens, I'm about tired of this snowing putting the kapooz on our fun. It is time to heat things up this week with some ZUMBA. I have been working on our moves here at home but it isn't the same without your beautiful faces.
Let's do the no snow dance so we can have some fun, fun, fun. At this rate we will be having class all summer - even thought that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Bring your bootie shakin', salsa lovin', hot bods down Tuesday and let's melt this snow!
I'm ready...Bring it on!
Woot Woot Zoot Zoot Zumba!

Cumbia Tidbit
Many of you know that Cumbia is one of my favorite dances. I love the hypnotic rhythm and the beauty of the dance. I was reading about Cumbia in Beto's book and learned this -
"Cumbia originated in the 1800's as part of the Spanish slave trade in Columbian coastal areas. Historically, it was a courtship ritual between African men and Indian women at a time when the two communities were intermarrying in Columbia."
Perez, Beto. Zumba Ditch the Workout Join the Party! The Zumba Weight Loss Program. 1st ed. New York: Wellness Central Hachette Book Group, 2009. 289. Print.

Snow Day - Schmow Day!
Thanks to the blizzard, we couldn't meet for Zumba tonight : ( I spent evening curled up on my couch with my Nook. I did work on some new songs for our next playlist, but it isn't the same by my lonesome. I missed the energy of the class.
I did sign up today for this summer's 2011 Zumba Conference in Orlando, Florida. I am sooooo excited to go to my first Zumba conference. Beto will be there and I signed up for so many fun classes. I am taking Zumba Toning, Caribbean Heat, and Brazilian Carnival among other classes and concert parties. How am I going to wait until July! I can't wait to bring these new moves to class and share them with you. I've got the B2 class in March so I can share that with you in our 4th session. So much music, so little time!
Beto Tidbit - Beto's mom took him to see Grease when he was 8 years old. That was the moment Beto decided he was going to DANCE!!! Thank you John Travolta.

Welcome Zumba Kittens!!! Meow.....Zoot Zoot!!!
Hey Zumba Kittens,
Welcome to my Zumba blog. I am certified Zumba instructor Cindy Ramirez. I hope you are here to learn more about Zumba and join the party (If you haven't already). I call you kittens instead of cougars because Zumba will keep you forever young. The music makes you come alive and you can't help but shake what your mama gave ya. We dance to mostly Latin music like Salsa, Merengue, Reggae, Cumbia, plus a few little surprises thrown in there once in a while.
Zumba is not a step-by-step dance class. You move by feeling the music. I have dances that I use for every song and you are welcome to follow me, add your own moves, or even make your own dance. I am up there leading the class so you can have fun, not challenge you. I will not correct your moves because they are your moves. If I'm looking at you it is because I want to see your smile. There are no Zumba police anywhere to be found, I promise. I use easy to follow steps that can be done slow or fast, it is up to you. If you aren't glowing, pick it up. If you are glowing, take to down a notch (women glow, not sweat).
Zumba was created by Beto. You should watch him move, he is hot, hot, hot - caliente! He was in Colombia in the mid 90's teaching an aerobics class and forgot his music. He ran to his car and to get his personal music and the class LOVED it and Zumba was born. In 2001 Beto brought his Zumba to Florida where two gentlemen realized the potential of this fitness craze and helped Beto by backing him financially and Zumba took off all over the world.
I have been teaching Zumba since 2008. I was getting hooked on it (like everyone does) and my friend from Washington State was teaching Zumba and talked me into taking an instructor course. It was shaky in the beginning but I found my confidence with the help of this infectious music and now Zumba is part of who I am.
I teach Zumba on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8 pm in Bedford Michigan. I was teaching Zumba 5 times a week ( at various locations) but I have 5 kids, and a full time job as a high school teacher, so I cut back a bit. Even though I teach twice a week, I spend hours dancing at home, attending workshops, Zumba Jams, Master classes, conferences, and searching music and videos. Like I said, "It is who I am." I occasionally teach at my school in our dance class or for coaches that want to give their athletes a break from regular workouts. The students love it.
Give me a call if you would like to check out my Zumba class. My cell is 419-351-7285. I am also listed on the zumba.com website as a certified instructor. I work your mind, body, and soul, as well as help you leave my class with a smile on your face. I love the way I feel when I dance Zumba style, I think you will too!
